NPC history

Did you know... NPC has access to its own private nine-hole golf course!

Barneywood, which we affectionately refer to as "The Farm," is used as a retreat center for the employees, customers and guests of NPC. A beautiful, scenic nine-hole private golf course spans the majority of the grounds at Barneywood, but for those not interested in golf, there are plenty of other possibilities like walking, hiking, biking, volleyball and much more.

It all started in the late 1980s when the land was purchased with plans to construct a new manufacturing facility. The land was an old pig farm situated in Duncansville, PA with beautiful sprawling hills, forests and ponds. Barneywood is located about six miles from NPC's corporate office in Claysburg, PA.

Owner Mark Barnhart and his father, founder Barney Barnhart, quickly decided the land would be better suited for a golf course. Barney was retiring from NPC at the time and went to work on his personal playground. His vision was to create a unique recreational facility that would bring NPC employees together and foster relationships.

The golf course

NPC's private nine-hole golf course stretches nearly 3,000 yards and includes three par-3s, four par-4s and a pair of par-5s — one of which measures over 500 yards. The fairways are mowed and groomed just like a public course, while the sand traps and water hazards are strategically placed for a fun yet challenging round of golf.

All NPC employees are welcome — and encouraged — to use the course, which was originally built completely by employees.

"Sometimes I'll stop after work and walk nine holes," NPC employee Rob Laubenstein says. "The course is really nice, and it's great that the company offers this benefit to employees."
