SUMMARY
The Document Coding Technician position is more than likely a position that you have never done before. This job consists of learning a new skill set on the computer keyboard. Many candidates coming into this position arrive with the mindset that this is a typing position which is not the case at all. This job requires minimal actual typing. The Document Coding position requires placement of codes using keystrokes called hotkey and tools called macros placed appropriately throughout the document according to the customers’ specifications. Microsoft Word is the primary application utilized to perform the coding work. It is very important that employees understand the shortcuts that are set up by Microsoft Word in order to perform at optimum proficiency.
Especially at first, this position is quite challenging. It is important to not let this position intimidate you. The Document Coding position has been mastered by many people. Many of our folks approach each document as a puzzle placing each piece together while gaining a confidence level in tagging. It will be important to invest time in studying both in and out of the classroom. The training staff has put together a very effective training program equipped with many tools that will impact your success as a Document Coding Technician. With focus, dedication, and hard work, you WILL be very successful.
Some key points to mastering this position:
There will be a six week classroom training that consists of (16) levels. The first three levels are trainer instructed and then from levels (4) through (16) your training will be self paced around a pace guideline to aid you in instilling the production mindset and staying on target for timely training completion.
During this training you will be introduced to hot keys, macros and tools that are going to help you to succeed at this job and become a successful employee at NPC. To progress to each level it is required that you maintain an 85% grade average or greater.
