Job Title: Komori Sheetfed Press
Operator

Reports To: Shift Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Hourly
SUMMARY
Makes
ready and operates sheet-fed offset printing press to print single and
multicolor copy from lithographic plates by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES include the
following. Other duties may be assigned.
Self-Starter and
Self-Motivated
Examines job order to determine quantity to be printed, stock specifications, colors, and special printing instructions.
Measures
plate thickness and inserts packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate
to printing height and installs and locks plate into position, using handtools,
to achieve pressure required for printing.
Washes
plate to remove protective gum coating.
Measures
paper thickness and adjusts space between blanket and impression cylinders
according to thickness of paper stock.
Fills
ink and dampening solution fountains and adjusts controls to regulate flow of
ink and dampening solution to plate cylinder.
Starts
press, examines printed copy for ink density, position on paper, and
registration, and makes adjustments to press throughout production run to
maintain specific registration and color density.
Performs
press rule up for quality verification.
Removes
and cleans plate and cylinders.
May
apply packing sheets to blanket cylinder to build up blanket thickness to
diameter of plate cylinder.
Loads
paper into feeder, make adjustments to feeder and delivery mechanisms, and
unloads printed material from delivery mechanism.
May
lead, give directions to, and monitor work of trainees and support staff.
Performs other duties as
requested.

QUALIFICATIONS To

EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or
general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience
pressroom.
In house Training
Must be able to understand
and demonstrate support skills. (must be
competent in all training packages)
Advanced in house training
Process Color Training
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret
documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals. Ability to write
routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively with co-workers, supervisors, vendor
representatives, and other NPC employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract,
multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to
compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability
to weigh and measure using a ruler, densitometer, scale, pica, and other
related instruments.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical
problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and apply common sense
understanding to carry out.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently
lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Must be available to work a set or
rotating day and/or night schedule following a 2-week rotation of three and
four 12-hour shifts per week. Overtime
required.
