Christmas Tree Decorating Contest drives generous donations to local food banks, non-profit organizations

Claysburg, PA – NPC, Inc., with locations in Claysburg, Roaring Spring and Altoona, and its employees gave back in a big way this holiday season with a company-wide Christmas tree decorating contest and food drive during December that generated nearly 2,000 food items for Blair County food banks and over $1,300 in donations to various non-profit organizations.

Instead of a typical canned food drive, NPC put a little different spin on things. A total of 13 departments each decorated a Christmas tree to display in their area of the company. For each department’s efforts, NPC made a donation to the charity of their choice. After employee voting – where one canned good or non-perishable food item equaled one vote – trees from the top three departments received an extra monetary donation for their charity, which included:

  • American Cancer Society
  • Blair Senior Services
  • Central PA Humane Society
  • Claysburg Food Bank
  • Domestic Abuse Project
  • Hollidaysburg Veterans Home
  • Homeless Veterans Organization
  • Relay For Life
  • Salvation Army
  • Special Olympics
  • St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen
  • Susan G. Komen for the Cure
  • Toys for Tots
  • Wally Warmth

NPC’s Composition/Prepress/Preship departments were named the overall winner of the contest with 505 votes (or donated food items), with Document Processing the runner-up and Customer Service in third place. All food collected was donated to the Claysburg Food Bank, Martinsburg Food Bank and St. Vincent DePaul in Altoona.

“Since starting with NPC in May 2011, I have continued to be impressed with the quality of the people that make up the workforce of our organization,” said Human Resources representative Luke Sackandy, who organized the contest. “I was presented with the task of creating a Christmas-themed competition with a fundraising component. I thought this was a great opportunity to spread some holiday cheer with a little friendly competition – and the response was overwhelming.”

In addition to the contest, NPC employees made and sold ornaments for their departmental Christmas trees with proceeds benefitting the Veterans in our area, as well as breast cancer awareness.
